Our EU-funded project PartArt4OW launches its Second Open Call, inviting visionary proposals that engage local communities across the Mediterranean in the prevention, study, and reduction of water pollutionThe Open Call officially opened on 1 August 2025 at 12:00 CET and will close on 2 October 2025 at 17:00 CET.

Why This Matters

Water pollution is not just an environmental issue – it is a deep social challenge. It threatens biodiversity, disrupts fragile ecosystems and disproportionately affects vulnerable communities. From plastics to chemical runoff, noise to pathogens, pollution in the Mediterranean is a multifaceted problem that demands innovative, community-driven solutions.

PartArt4OW believes that by combining citizen engagement, science, and artistic practices, we can co-create new ways of understanding and confronting pollution at its roots.

What We are Looking For

We invite bold proposals that:

  • actively engage citizens, moving beyond simple awareness-raising
  • combine science-based research with experimental and understudied artistic practices
  • co-create new ways of understanding and tackling pollution
  • focus on the communities living near the ocean, water basins and rivers
  • address key societal and environmental challenges of those communities and amplify the unheard-of community voices.

Projects may explore a range of pollution types, including but not limited to:

  • Solid waste and marine litter;
  • Chemical or nutrient runoff from agriculture and industry;
  • Sewage discharge;
  • Harmful underwater noise or thermal pollution;
  • Biological or pathogen contamination;
  • Micro- and nanopollutants.

Special Consideration Will Be Given to Proposals That:

  • Use a whole-system approach connecting fresh water and marine ecosystems;
  • Illuminate uncertain, invisible, or sensory-absent aspects of pollution;
  • Examine how pollution transforms communities, cultures, and futures;
  • Amplify unheard voices and valorize existing communal practices.
