IMPETUS at the annual Ars Electronic Science and Arts Festival – Lienz (Austria), September 2024
In January 2024, the King’s College, inaugurated its Engaged Research Awards. Our IMPETUS project and its technical coordinator, Gefion Thuermer, were recognised for their outstanding achievements and contributions to impactful research.
The T6 Ecosystems team is very proud of this prize that recognizes years of dedication in the field of participatory research. In IMPETUS we support citizen science teams by providing training and mentoring on how to measure, describe and maximise their scientific, social, political, economic and environmental impacts. We also support them in planning for the long term sustainability of their intervention. The interaction with citizen science projects is of great help in improving our impact assessment methodologies and in learning more and more on how to make the dialogue between science and society more effective.
The awards covered five overarching categories, showcasing excellence in approaches to engaging with different audiences:
- Communicating research
- Collaboration
- Engaged Practice/Participatory Research
- PhD and Early Career Research Award
- Transforming Research Culture or Public Life – presented by Martin Broadstock, Head of Research Culture
Considering the way of designing, planning and executing its activities, by gathering citizen science practitioners in a multidisciplinary approach, IMPETUS has been nominated for the Participatory Research (International) award. Indeed, the project is funding and training 125 citizen science initiatives, bringing these projects closer to society and policymakers, but also contributing to the Green Deal and UN Sustainable Development Goal commitments. These happen by implementing three open calls, setting up an impact-driven citizen science accelerator, and launching the EU Prize for Citizen Science.
