DBE - Digital Business Ecosystem

The Digital Business Ecosystem (DBE) is an Internet-based software environment in which business applications can be developed and used. The unique feature of the DBE is that applications within the ecosystem are able to perform new functions that were, up to now, undreamed of by users. The DBE is an open, free environment where even the smallest specialist software developer can participate competitively in the massive global marketplace for business applications. It will enable end users to easily access and use those applications as services, and to have the benefits of intelligence, interaction and adaptation as the software evolves in response to their own usage and that of others. The initial target of the DBE is those complex commercial transactions and processes that are not easily or economically served by current even state-of-the-art software technologies.

ARMONIA

The overall aim of the research project ARMONIA (Applied multi Risk Mapping of Natural Hazards for Impact Assessment) is to provide the European Commission with a new harmonised methodology for producing integrated risk maps to achieve more effective spatial planning procedures in areas prone to natural disasters in Europe.

XTREEMEOS

The XtreemOS project aims at investigating and proposing new services that should be added to current operating systems to build Grid infrastructure in a simple way. XtreemOS targets the Linux well-accepted open source operating system extending it to Grid with native support for virtual organizations. One of the most important challenges in XtreemOS is the identification of the basic functionalities which are to be embedded in the Linux kernel. A set of operating system services, extending those found in the standard Linux distribution, will provide Linux users with all the Grid capabilities associated with current Grid middleware, but fully integrated into the OS. The underlying Linux OS will be extended as needed to support virtual organizations spanning across many machines and to supply appropriate interfaces to Grid OS services.

OPAALS - Open Netwok of Excellence

The two overarching aims of the OPAALS Network of Excellence are to build a sustainable interdisciplinary research community in the emerging area of Digital Ecosystems and to develop an integrated theoretical foundation for Digital Ecosystems research, which spans three widely different disciplinary domains: social science, computer science, and natural science. Digital Ecosystems are emerging as a novel approach for the catalysis of regional growth driven by SMEs. SMEs are fundamentally important to the European economy but their rate of adoption of ICT is low, their R&D budgets are severely constrained, and their access to innovation is limited by the dominant IPR environment.

EFFORT

EFFORT objective is to gain understanding of the behaviour, governance, sustainability and constituency drivers of dynamic cross-border and cross-regional clusters of SMEs to improve their ability to access the global market, facilitating collaborative production of products and services, as well as responding to procurement contracts of public or private organizations.

Scenario

Lo scopo del progetto é definire e realizzare uno strumento che permetta di condividere ed utilizzare dati e informazioni descriventi fenomeni di tipo culturale, sociale, economico e ambientale. Tale strumento é indirizzato a coloro i quali programmano attività utilizzando informazioni relative a fenomeni correlati in un corretto rapporto causa-effetto. Per condividere ed analizzare questo insieme di dati, occorre saper integrare strumenti in grado di trattare informazioni eterogenee. L'eterogeneità delle fonti e la quantità delle informazioni elementari rischiano, infatti, di far perdere di vista la complessità dei fenomeni ed é quindi necessario disporre di uno strumento capace di gestire e visualizzare un insieme correlato di informazioni che definiscono i fenomeni sociali. www.progettoscenario.net
