On December 13th, T6 Ecosystems, in collaboration with Italian Digital Media Observatory (IDMO) consortium partners Ufficio Studi Rai, TIM, and Luiss Data Lab, unveiled their research “Digital Media Literacy Gaps and Needs” at Luiss University. Officially published online last week, the study aims to comprehensively explore the specific needs of teachers and students within the Italian school system regarding digital media literacy.
The event featured guest speakers Francesco Giorgino, Director of Ufficio Studi Rai; Gianna Barbieri, Director General for Structural Funds for Education, School Construction, and Digitalization at the Italian Ministry of Education; Andrea Nicolai, Co-founder and CEO of T6 Ecosystems and Felicita di Rosa, Head of TIM Academy & Development – Needs, Design & Quality. Throughout the event, each guest speaker reflected on their contributions and the collective effort that went into preparing the research.
In particular, Andrea Nicolai of T6 Ecosystems highlighted that the study’s findings show a specific demand for teachers skilled in digital media literacy and the necessity for open-access resources. He emphasized that the research marks a first step, with the hope that it could lead to a European-wide initiative to positively impact the education of students and teachers across the entire European Union.
Overall, the IDMO project reflects a significant step forward in bridging existing gaps and nurturing a more digitally competent educational landscape, ultimately preparing adequately both teachers and students alike.
